Improve documents and ebooks features (fill space, automatically split to better fit on fixed sizes like letter, A4, epub)
Dan Verton
U.S. letter dimensions for exporting documents in pdf do not export in 8.5" x 11" - they are 12.1 x 16" - Can you fix the export function so that it exports the document in the correct dimension?

From Community: Request for smarter gamma PDF export functionality

Mariena Quintanilla
Is there a world where gamma PDF exports will be smart enough to create new pages rather than assume 1 page = 1 card? that is, when a card overflows, to make a new page on export. Today I have to maintain two versions of resources I build (like a reference guide, prompt kit, how to guides). One that is optimizing for digital using nested cards, toggles, and grouping content by theme. Then a second where I optimize for letter print creating additional cards for overflow.

Hey Mariena Quintanilla, this is super clear and honestly a really legit workflow pain. I’ll pass this along to the team: PDF export that auto-paginates when a card overflows, instead of forcing 1 page = 1 card, so you don’t have to maintain a separate “print version.”
Quick question: when a card overflows, would you want the export to split it onto the next page automatically (continuing the same card), or duplicate the card styling and treat the overflow as a new card/page with the same layout rules?

Nik Payne (Gamma design) I'm not sure. I'm having a hard time in my head picturing different card styles and what each version would look like printed. I think you may be asking if footers and other card settings would be applied to each printed page or just the first and last? If so I think each. so card numbers would end up being page numbers, confidentiality text on each page, logo on each page, etc.

A4 better AI generation
J
John Barbour
It creates powerpoints well, and fills up all the space, however when I ask it to generate on an A4, it leaves lots of blank and empty space, unless I use a template, I wish there was an easier way to make it generate better for A4 layouts
Nik Payne (Gamma design)
Hey John Barbour, thanks for the super clear writeup. Totally get the frustration with A4 leaving a bunch of dead space.
When you say “generate better for A4,” what outcome are you aiming for?
1) Denser text/layout (smaller margins, tighter spacing), or
2) Different content structure (more sections, columns, tables, etc) so it naturally fills the page?
Also, are you trying to print/export to PDF for A4, or just view it in an A4-sized layout on screen? I’ll pass this along to the team either way.

Card Formatting
Louniv LLC
Can you guys please make sure there is a strict format to make sure that if you choose US letter with strict rules, that Gamma can just STOP, making those long, long cards. I would prefer a continue page "Card" so I don't have to keep wasting all my credits or manual edit, when I put strict page formatting in the prompt. It's getting so frustrating and I am wasting all my credits. If I put strict 11 x 8.5 US letter then format etc.. and also mention to split cards if content goes over. Why are there so many cards I have to edit. Also need to make sure that cards dont have so much blank space on them and barely any content either, that also looks like a waste and a very cheap product.
Nik Payne (Gamma design)
Totally hear you Louniv LLC. If you’re picking US Letter and asking for strict page rules, having Gamma still spit out extra-long cards or a bunch of half-empty ones is super frustrating, especially if it’s burning credits.
A couple quick questions so I can pass something actionable to the team:
1) When this happens, are you exporting to PDF/print, or is the issue mainly in the editor view?
2) What’s the “bad” behavior you see most: cards that overflow past a page, too many cards created, or cards with lots of blank space and tiny amounts of content?
If you can share one example doc (or a screenshot of a few consecutive cards), that’d help us pinpoint what rules it’s ignoring.

Nik Payne (Gamma design)

karin an thanks for the detailed writeup (and the screenshot). Totally get how annoying that is if you’re trying to use Gamma in a doc-style workflow and it keeps forcing a big blank area at the bottom.
A couple quick questions so we can pass something actionable to the team:
1) Does the extra whitespace show up only in “Document” output, or also when you export/print (PDF) too?
2) Is it happening on every doc you create, or only with certain blocks (like the Memo card / multi-column section) or certain themes?
If you can share what device + browser you’re on (ex: Chrome on Windows, Safari on iPad), that’d help us narrow it down fast.

Nik Payne (Gamma design) I'm using a Gamma-only app on my Windows computer. I've worked with letters and pdf files several times, but I think this error occurs every time I document it. I'm not sure if it's posted like that in the context of paragraphs. I tried to divide it by card before Ai work started, but it didn't work as a setting itself. Once I document it, all pages are processed like that, so I can work again. It's so perfect when I make social media or other media, but only documents keep on making it, so I suggested it.
